The Utah Valley University Department of Theatre is excited to present “Jack and the Beanstalk”, a new musical based on the classic children’s story. Performances will be shown in the Noorda Theatre on Dec. 1-2 at 6:30 p.m.  There will also be sensory-friendly performances adjusted for individuals on the Autism spectrum on Saturday Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

This brand-new musical takes the fairytale of Jack, the magic beans, and the Giant and asks the important question, “Wait, wasn’t Jack a thief?” This funny, upbeat and heartwarming new twist on the classic story takes the characters we all know and love, and puts them in a modern context. How does Jack right the wrongs he committed? What takes more courage, climbing the beanstalk and embarking on adventure, or admitting you hurt someone else?

“Jack and the Beanstalk” is the fall touring show for Theatre, Youth, and education Center at UVU, travelling to schools along the Wasatch front. The TYE Center has been sending out a touring show each semester since its founding in 2009.

“Jack” will be a one hour operetta version of the classic story. What really sets this production apart from others is the fact that it is written and composed by UVU student Spicer W. Carr. The students performing are singers and actors who love presenting to young people.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” tickets are on sale at uvu.edu/arts. Prices range from $3 for the special sensory-friendly matinee performance on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m., and $5 for the evening shows at 6:30 p.m. on December 1 and 2. All ages are welcome.
