Utah Valley University President Matthew S. Holland has been named the winner of the 2016 Dive Award: Executive of the Year by Education Dive, a leading education news publisher.

Matthew Holland became the sixth president of Utah Valley University in 2009 and has been improving the educational institution ever since.

“I was really impressed with Dr. Holland’s commitment to doing what’s best for the state — even over his own career interests — in outlining Utah Valley’s instructional direction. It’s precisely this type of leadership that I think the spirit of this award represents,” said Autumn Arnett, editor, Education Dive.

“Education Dive’s recognition of President Holland’s leadership confirms what we already know—he is an impressive leader,” said Elaine Dalton, Chair of the Utah Valley University Board of Trustees. “His vision for UVU has allowed us to maintain our roots as an engaged and inclusive vocational, community college while growing into a serious university focused on student success. President Holland’s championing of this unique dual model has provided a way to keep costs low and is a major factor behind our growth to become Utah’s largest university.”

The 2016 Dive Awards recognize the industry’s top disruptors and innovators. From Company of the Year to Obsession of the Year, Education Dive solicited suggestions for title nominees from its 29,000 readers.

With the help of a panel of industry insiders, winners were chosen by the editors of Education Dive based on resonance and industry impact.
