The forecast for Jan. 25, 2014 is cloudy and cold…but inside the halls of Utah Valley University, it will be a steady, well-lit 70 degrees, so sign up now to beat the outdoor conditions at the 7th annual Utah Valley University No Snow Indoor 5K. The UVU Volunteer & Service-Learning Center and Habitat for Humanity of Utah County are hosting the race on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 9 a.m. to benefit the UVU Habitat for Humanity house.
The event begins at Centre Stage in the Sorensen Student Center and includes a stair or a non-stair route option. All participants will receive a free T-shirt and free pancake breakfast following the race.
“This is a fun way for people to get their workout indoors and tour UVU’s beautiful campus, while at the same time helping to fund a great community service project,” said Summer Valente, Volunteer & Service-Learning Center director. “We encourage everyone — families, individuals, runners, joggers, non-runners — to participate in this fun and unique race.”
In previous years, the race has included about 150 runners, joggers and walkers, and organizers expect more this year.
“Most people don’t realize that UVU campus has a unique design in that nearly all of the buildings are interconnected with hallways,” Valente said. “You can visit almost any building on the campus without ever going outside.”
All proceeds from this year’s race will benefit the UVU/Habitat for Humanity home currently under construction in Springville for the Woods family.
Registration for the 5K is $10 in advance or $15 on race day starting at 8 a.m. Children under 10 are free. Participants may register early by going to UVU’s Campus Connection in the Sorensen Student Center or signing up online at habitatuc.org.
