On Sept. 28, thousands of alumni, family and friends gathered to attend the UVU Alumni Association’s fourth annual Family Fun Fair. Part of the Alumni Days tradition, the Family Fun Fair showcased different UVU schools and departments and, new this year, partnered with the Color Me Rad 5K for the university’s first and largest sponsored run.
“I was so delighted to find that Matt Ward, a UVU alumnus, owned one of the nation’s biggest race organizations, Color Me Rad,” said Jeri Allphin, director of the UVU Alumni Association. “Our greatest accomplishment is encouraging alumni to return to serve the UVU community. The excitement of Color Me Rad’s participation made this the biggest Family Fun Fair we’ve ever had.”
The temporary color-stained roads and tutus left evidence of a race well run. UVU schools, departments and supporters also set up interactive booths. Some of these included games, prize wheels, photo booths, bounce houses, paper rocket launches and face painting for attendees to enjoy.
In addition, the highly anticipated “wolverine green” pancake breakfast was a success, offering free pancakes, sausage and ice cream to alumni cardholders, UVU students and their families. Participants also enjoyed performances by the Green Man Group and the UVU Spirit Squad, who led the event in a fight song and children’s parade.
Loyal UVU supporter Liberty Mutual sponsored a bike rally and bike giveaway for the event. Those who entered were drawn individually for a chance to win one of 10 new bikes. More prizes included giveaways for two alumni swag packages and a grand prize, a mini iPad. All the gifts, games and fun activities at the event made the Family Fun Fair a successful and growing tradition.
“Big ‘Thank You’ to the UVU Alumni Association for inviting Painted Party and Friends for our third year at the Family [Fun] Fair,” wrote Denise Cold, UVU supporter and owner of Painted Party, via Facebook. “It turned out to be a fabulous day and the fair just gets better and better every year!”
