The community is invited to an evening showcasing the talents of two Utah Valley University faculty members Monday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theater in the Sorensen Student Center.
The “Mozart and Ballet” Music Faculty Showcase and Dance evening will highlight two of the UVU music department’s acclaimed faculty members, department chair and violinist Donna Fairbanks and violist Elizabeth Kuefler Wallace. They will perform one of the most popular sinfonia concertante of all time — Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.
The concert will also feature two fantastic ballet scores commissioned by the legendary ballet impresario, Sergei Diaghilev — de Falla’s “Three-Cornered Hat Suite” and Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite of 1919.”
“The performance is geared to anyone who loves music and ballet,” said Cheung Chau, UVU assistant professor of music. “Mozart is elegant and exquisite as always, and the combination of the solo violin and solo viola in the Mozart is a highly effective duo. And de Falla’s and Stravinsky’s scores are two of the most popular orchestral ballet scores.”
Tickets for the “Mozart and Ballet” Music Faculty showcase can be purchased online at uvu.edu/arts, or at the door.
