Faculty and staff at Utah Valley University will be out in the community on May 18 to help with a variety of community service projects as part of UVU’s Summer University program.

This year 900 employees will put on their UVU Wolverine green to work with 17 organizations on 23 different projects in Eagle Mountain, Orem, Provo, Springville and Heber City.

Projects range from doing yard work and clean up for organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, Parks and Recreation departments of Orem and Provo and Mesa Vista Nursing Home to visiting with residents at Provo Rehabilitation & Nursing to making beds and decorating new homeless shelter units at Food & Care Coalition.

Summer University’s service program reflects UVU’s inherent commitment to serving the needs of the community. This is the third straight year a half day of dedicated community service is included the program.

“These service projects are reflective of the types of community engagement we like to foster at UVU. I am thrilled that our faculty and staff are so committed not only to engaged learning, but also to activities that contribute to our community,” said UVU President Matthew S. Holland.

Summer University began in 2004 and is a three-day event for faculty and staff to participate in professional and personal development activities and to interact with colleagues across campus and within the community.
