Utah Valley University is proud to host the 3rd Annual Latin American Celebration Tuesday, April 13, in the Sorensen Grande Ballroom from 6-8 p.m.
This annual event is a chance to celebrate successful Latino/a students in Utah Valley, and includes the presentation of 59 scholarships from various UVU departments and seven community awards. The evening also includes dinner and entertainment with cultural dance performances.
The UVU Latino Initiative will honor the following individuals with Community Engagement Awards, recognizing six individuals who have dedicated their time to the development of programs, events or projects that help the Latino community succeed: Lorena Riffo-Jenson of DPR Communications, Utah State Senator Luz Robles, Guido Arochi of Mexican Consulate’s Promotion and Community Affairs/IME, Miguel Rovira from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Sonia Quiroga Thomas, CEO of Spanish Waves and Eliana E. Espinoza, who has spent 20 years in the service of the Latino community.
The José M. Rubio Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Héctor Mediola, program leader for Latino Communities at Utah State University.
Tickets for the dinner and event are $5, with all proceeds going to the UVU Hispanic Education Scholarship Fund. All community members are invited.
