UVU Community & Continuing Education, in association with Career Step, will hold free informational open houses for new online noncredit courses in medical transcription and medical coding and billing. The Orem open houses will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon and from 7-9 p.m. in the UVU Sorensen Student Center, room 213a. The Heber open house will be held the following day from 7-9 p.m. at the UVU Wasatch Campus, 3111 N. College Way, room 204.
A nationwide shortage of medical coders has left an increase in demand for most employers. Job demand growth is at a higher average than other occupations in these two areas and both are expected to have exceptional growth in job openings within the next seven years.
“We looked for a high quality medical transcription and medical coding and billing program that offered placement assistance,” said Diana Hunter, senior director of UVU Community & Continuing Education. “Our program, in partnership with Career Step, offers personal placement assistance for graduates and has an outstanding 85 percent placement rate. Graduates of these programs are highly regarded in the medical industry.”
Open house attendees will enjoy free refreshments and receive answers to their questions regarding the new online medical transcription or medical coding and billing courses. A $100 discount certificate toward registration in one of these online classes will be given to each open house attendee. Partial scholarships may also be available for qualified students.
The new online programs specialize in high demand medical positions and allow students to study at their own pace and on their own schedule. For more information or to register for an open house, visit ce.uvu.edu/medonline or call (801) 863-8012.
