After a week of inaugural activities, Utah Valley University President Matthew S. Holland will be ceremonially installed as the head of the university at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9 in the Grande Ballroom of the Sorensen Student Center. (Members of the media, please contact Erin Spurgeon at (801) 863-6807 if you wish to attend.)

Holland was named the new head of UVU on June 1, but his inauguration continues to be celebrated with weeklong festivities, including events for faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community.

The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live on UVU-TV (Channel 17 for Comcast subscribers) and re-broadcast on KBYU television at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 and at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. It can also be viewed live online at www.uvu.edu/broadcast.

Friday evening, UVU will host the final event of inauguration week, the President’s Inaugural & Scholarship Ball, the proceeds of which will fund student scholarships. Now in its 19th year, the annual President’s Scholarship Ball provides the perfect setting to cap weeklong inauguration festivities, according to UVU Foundation Executive Director Robert Hanson.

“The ball represents the premier gala event for Utah County,” Hanson said. “There’s nothing that tops it. As such, it’s fitting that this year’s President’s Scholarship Ball doubles as an inaugural celebration.”

In a nod to the university’s commitment to engaged learning, students from UVU’s award-winning Culinary Arts Institute students will continue tradition in 2009 by preparing the five-course meal for the ball and UVU students will provide the evening’s entertainment.

Hanson said the UVU Foundation is grateful to this year’s sponsors who have generously supported the 2009 President’s Scholarship Ball. NuSkin Enterprises, Inc. is the title sponsor for the 2009 event. The Deseret News and Utah Community Credit Union are platinum sponsors and Fillmore Spencer, LLC, The Fugal Companies, Layton Construction, Novell, Inc. and Voonami are gold sponsors.
