Utah Valley University will celebrate the inauguration of its sixth president, Matthew S. Holland, with a week of inaugural events beginning Monday, Oct. 5 and culminating with the inaugural ceremonies for President Holland Friday, Oct. 9. Inaugural events will take place each day of the Inaugural Week celebration, featuring activities and events for all of UVU’s community members.

“My great hope for this week was that we would find a way to celebrate all components of the University,” President Holland said. ” I’m gratified that our Inaugural Week does just that, with events in honor of faculty, staff, students, alumni and our families.”

Inaugural Week events will include a family movie night at the Brent Brown Ballpark, distinguished faculty and international humanitarian lectures, an ice cream social for staff, lunch with the president for students, and a UVU Student Association (UVUSA)-sponsored student inaugural ball, among other activities.

Finally, Friday, the week’s events will be concluded with Holland’s installation ceremony, to be held 11 a.m. in the Sorensen Student Center Grande Ballroom. Holland will address the UVU community at this time and be officially instated as the institution’s sixth president. An open house will follow the installation ceremony in room 206 of the Sorensen Student Center. The elegant Inaugural and Scholarship Ball (a variation of UVU’s annual President’s Scholarship Ball) will take place that evening, featuring the talents of UVU’s Culinary Arts Institute students and other performing groups, concluding the inaugural festivities.

President Holland, who officially took office June 1, joins UVU from Brigham Young University and brings an acclaimed public speaking background and numerous academic accolades to the position.

More information on the Inaugural Week events is available online at www.uvu.edu/president/inauguration.
