Stay in the loop with UVAnnounce
Big news: the UVAnnounce weekly e-mail blast is switching from Monday morning to Thursday morning. Not only will this save UVAnnounce from straight-to-the-trash obscurity in your crowded Monday morning inbox, but it will also provide a timely reminder of the fast approaching weekend activities.
Look for the first Thursday e-mail on Feb. 10. In the meantime, we figured this would be a good time to remind everyone — especially the non-users — of the powerful tools UVAnnounce brings to the table.
UVAnnounce is the tool the University uses to communicate with the campus community. This includes the weekly UVAnnounce e-mail, occasional UV You Need To Know e-mails and the Campus Calendar.
Both the calendar and the weekly e-mail are divided into two columns: Announcements and Calendar events. The calendar column displays the events of the current week; the announcements column displays both non-calendar items (like, say, a call for papers) and calendar events for the following week. This means both the weekly email and the Campus Calendar are essentially a two-week snapshot of what’s happening around campus.
Anyone that can log on to UVLink can submit an announcement. The submission pop-up window is pretty intuitive, but if you’re hazy on some of the steps, review our detailed instruction page. Please also review our Category Criteria, as this is a common cause of confusion.
Perhaps the most helpful — and unknown — aspect of UVAnnounce is its filtering ability.
The Campus Calendar (found on the UVU home page by clicking “Announcements” in the green box, or “Event Calendar” in the middle tabs) is set up to view by day, by week or by month. You can also view in a series of months or years. You can look at announcements by viewing all of them, or you can filter it by audience, including Public, Student, Faculty or Employee. Lastly, you can filter by category, including Academics Dates and Deadlines, Conferences, Lectures and Workshops, Arts and Entertainment, Sports and Athletics and Campus Life.
You can also search for a specific announcement — type in any key word and it will search both past and present announcements. Printing is also an option. If you have digital calendar software, you can even subscribe to UVAnnounce calendars by category. They’ll show up in your Google Calendar or iCal and update themselves.
UVAnnounce is a powerful tool that can keep all of us connected if we use it right. If you’ve never given it a try, go for it. If you’ve tried it once, but never again, it’s time to revisit — things are always improving.
Speaking of improvement, please leave questions and suggestions in the comments section. We’d love to hear how we can make UVAnnounce better for you.
