Summer Advisement Training Schedule

Advisement Forum,

At our Advisement Forum meeting today we released our Summer Advisement Training Schedule. In particular, we want to make you aware of two new features to our training schedule:

  • Inclusions Series of Trainings: This Summer our inclusion series will feature trainings about working with multicultural students (facilitated by Multicultural Student Services), working with International Students (facilitated by International Student Services), working with 1st Generation Students (facilitated by Trio Student Support Services), a Safe Zone Training (facilitated by Lisa Williamson from Academic Standards), and Debriefing and Discussion after these trainings. These trainings are a great chance to gain greater expertise about working with students with different cultures, identities, and backgrounds. You are welcome to sign up for the whole series or any of the trainings individually.
  • Motivational Interviewing in Advising: This training will be a more intensive, 4 hour training that will be limited to 16 participants. Motivational interviewing is an interactional approach designed to elicit an individual’s intrinsic motivation to change their own behavior. It has been effectively applied in addiction treatment and many other settings and its techniques can apply well to working with college students as well. This workshop will introduce the core ideas of motivational interviewing and practice applying techniques to elicit students’ own motivation to make positive behavioral change to increase their academic success.

We hope that you will take a look at our full slate of training opportunities in the Attachment. Everyone is welcome and invited to sign up for trainings online at http://webapp.uvu.edu/advisortraining/acs/.

If you have any questions or comments about the training schedule, please let me know.

Thanks!

Tom

Summer 2016 Training Schedule

Spring 2016 Graduation

We will finish the 1st round of awarding/posting degrees on May 27, 2016.

The attached e-mail was sent to the remaining Spring 2016 graduation applicants indicating that if Spring 2016 graduation requirements are still missing in Wolverine Track at this time, the student is in danger of having their graduation denied. We also noted that all requirements must show as complete in Wolverine Track by May 31, 2016. This includes (but may not be limited to) missing/incomplete grades, grade changes, surveys, exceptions/substitutions, challenge/experiential credit, and transfer credit from other institutions.

Sincerely,
UVU Graduation Office

Prerequisite Error & Refresh — Update

An Update!

I have been working with Ellucian on this issue and have applied a fix.  Please let me know if you see students who are getting a prerequisite error when they register for a Fall course with the prerequisite course registered for in Summer.  This should be fixed for students who have registered after 2:00 pm today.

Thank you for your patience!

Prerequisite Error & Refresh

Hi All,

We are finding that students who register for Summer Semester and Fall Semester in the same day are getting a prerequisite error if they are registering for the Summer course that is a prerequisite for the Fall course.  This is happening because a student’s audit refreshes with the overnight process and won’t recognize the Summer course until a refresh.

The students do not have the capability to refresh but advisors do.  If you have a student with this issue, try refreshing their audit (after they have registered for Summer) and have them try again for the Fall course.

I am working on a solution with Ellucian, but for the time being, this should be a good workaround.

Thanks

Perkins Loan PL and PX Holds

Hi all,

We have students coming in at the beginning and end of each semester with some confusion about the PX hold. This hold does NOT prevent a student from registering. It will prevent transcripts and diplomas, but nothing else. We will not remove this hold for them until they are registered at least half time. If a student has this hold, and is not registering here at UVU, then they should contact the Collections Department for an exit interview. The PL hold will prevent registration. If you have any questions please contact me at the number below.

Thank you!
