Good Afternoon!

Time is quickly running out to donate to our Sub 4 Santa Fund. Thanks to everyone who has already donated. We have already raised $807, so we are VERY close to reaching our goal of $1000.

Don’t forget, along with getting that warm feeling of knowing you have helped a needy family, Adam Black will be dressing up as an elf for our December Forum meeting (but only if we raise $1000), and I know you don’t want to miss out on that!

Please help us get to (or even pass) our goal of $1000 by bringing your money to Shalece or Kim in LC 403H no later than Monday 02 December at 5:00pm. If you would like, we can come to you to collect your money, just let us know (Shalece ext. 7184, Kim ext. 6556)!

Thanks again! We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

FYI – Update: Online Orientation Option

Dear Advisement Forum member,

Due to the tight time frame for the spring semester and difficulty in scheduling additional Orientation sessions, we are opening up the online orientation option for all new students effective immediately. (This applies to Spring 2014 only.)

In the meantime, we are taking all of your suggestions to heart and are working on improving the orientation process for our future students. Thank you for your support and patience.

Best,

Martha Wilson | Assistant Director
First-Year Experience & Orientation

FYI – Update: New Orientation Office Location

Dear Advisement Forum member,

Thank you so much for your patience as we work through some transitional issues with Orientation! We appreciate your insights and suggestions regarding the best way to assist students who have questions regarding their Orientation holds.

To better assist our new students, we’ve made a change to our Orientation office location.  For those students who prefer to speak with someone in person, please send them to our FYE office in the Losee Center, room 405k, rather than the temporary office in the CS hallway.  Students will still receive the most rapid and convenient assistance if they call or email the Orientation office (orientation@uvu.edu or 801-863-5491).

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Sub 4 Santa fund thus far. We appreciate your willingness to help and hope that there are still more of you interested in giving!

So far we have raised $357, more than 1/3 of our way to our goal of $1000!

If you would like to donate, please drop your money off to Shalece or Kim in LC 403H. Or, if you would like, we can come to you. Just let us know and we’d be happy to save you the trip!

Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!

FYI – Update: Orientation Transition

Dear Forum members,

I’ve already fielded numerous questions as to the actual location of the orientation staff—I applaud your speedy responses! The orientation staff are temporarily housed in CS 425 (the hallway between the LC and CS buildings). We have fairly adequate coverage between 9 am and 5 pm, but again, please (for the convenience of our new students) encourage them to call or email the Orientation office before they attempt to visit in person.

Currently, the location is unmarked—we’ll have temporary signage up soon!

Best,

FYI – Orientation Transition

Hello Advisement Forum members,

Most of you are aware that Orientation has moved to the department of First Year Experience and Student Retention. During this time of transition we’d like to ask your help to continue making the Orientation process as smooth as possible for our new students. As you meet with new students and encounter specific questions regarding their Orientation hold, please refer them to contact the Orientation Office by calling 801-863-5491, or by email at orientation@uvu.edu. Please do not send new students down to visit the student government office. Orientation staff are no longer in that area and the extra walking errand is frustrating for our new students (and for our student government staff, as well).

As more changes occur regarding the Orientation process, we will keep you informed so that you can always be providing the most current and helpful information to students.

We appreciate all that each of you do to promote and support student success on our campus!

On behalf of the First Year Experience and Orientation team,

Martha Wilson | First Year Experience Coordinator

FYI – Organizational Changes in the Office of Orientation

With the many organizational changes that have been happening within the Student Affairs division, the Office of Orientation will now be joining that trend in a leadership change to the Program Director position.  Kris Coles has recently been hired as the Director for Prospective Student Services and will no longer oversee orientation.  In the interim, effective immediately, Martha Wilson from First Year Experience and Student Retention will be overseeing orientation personnel, event coordination and the orientation holds removal process.  For further questions regarding orientation please contact MarthaW@uvu.edu, 863-5190 or the orientation staff orientation@uvu.edu, 863-5491.

The Office of Orientation is also excited to announce the new hire of a part-time staff member Mayra Rodriguez who will be assisting in office administration and event coordination along with Trent Boyer, previously with the Office of Orientation.
