FYI – Advisement Forum: Foreign Transcript Information

All credits earned from institutions outside the United States must be reviewed by one of the four accepted Foreign Transcript Evaluators listed on our web page. The AACRAO foreign transcript evaluation service changed their name to AACRAO International Education Service (IES) and changed their URL to ies.aacrao.org. We have updated our web page and information materials with this change.

We have also changed the type of report students should request from the International Education Research Foundation, Inc. Previously students would request a Detail Report, but we now require them to request the Detail Report with Course Level Distinction. This report provides us with more information on the level of the course. This has also been updated on the web page. You can visit the web page for more information (http://www.uvu.edu/transfer/international/incoming.html).

On our Incoming Credit web page (http://www.uvu.edu/transfer/students/incoming.html) under ACCEPTED REGIONAL ACCREDITING ORGANIZATIONS, links have been added to each of their institution directories. Feel free to use this or direct your students to this if they would like to see lists of regionally accredited institutions.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. You can also contact Kada Carlisle, the Transfer Credit Advisor, at 801-863-8216.

FYI – GREAT NEWS: 2013 Study Abroad Scholarships

Dear Friends of UVU’s International Study Programs (ISP),

I received an email today from a former colleague who now attends another U.S. university.  Here’s a quote:

all international experiences receive an automatic $1,500…with service learning adding $500…no application required.  You just have to let them know where you are going and what you are doing.  They have money to share since there is a $14 global education fee added to the student fees.  Can you imagine, what you could do with $14 from each student?

Rather than wring my hands in despair, I determined to remember and promulgate the fact that 2013 is the brightest year ever for UVU Study Abroad.  Here’s why:

2013 is definitely the year of good news for students interested in participating in UVU’s Study Abroad programs, and we ask you to let your students know about the good news.

$91,000 (yes, $91,000) has been allocated for 2013 Study Abroad scholarships.  Associate deans and program directors, please encourage your advisors to make sure the students they meet with know about these scholarship funds.  Applications are available at http://www.uvu.edu/international/isp/study_abroad/forms.html

Where is the money coming from?

  • More than $31,000 will come from our two donor families—the Howard and Elna Nelson family (Mary D.’s legacy lives on through her endowment and      continuing donations) and our wonderful anonymous donor family!
  • Almost $30,000 will come from program monies not spent on previous study abroad programs.
  • More $20,000 will come from the ISP operating budget.
  • $10,000 will come from President Holland’s China Initiative.

Where will the money go?

The donor money has been earmarked for specific programs, as, of course, has the China Initiative money.  The program monies will be used in the respective programs.  And the ISP money has been divided between 13 of the 16 programs; we determined that China, Peru, and Samoa have received significant subsidies, institutionally and otherwise, and thus did not need ISP funding.

So, there you have it.  Please spread the good news: 2013 may be the year of the snake, but it’s also the year of UVU Study Abroad.

With tremendous thanks for your support and efforts, grant
