FYI – COMPASS Placement Sheet

Hello Everyone.  A question has come up recently about whether the COMPASS placement scores may still be used to place students into courses.  Though the COMPASS is not administered at UVU any longer, it is possible that students have completed it through another institution and had those scores sent here.  In cases such as this, those scores may still be used to place students provided the scores are not expired.  A copy of the last printed COMPASS placement sheet is attached to this email for those who do not have one.

If you have any questions, please contact Advisor Training & Development.

FYI – Stoplight Report Repair

The Stoplight Report will not be available today, December 20th, from 3pm until midnight. There are some programming repairs that need to be made, which will allow for more accurate data in our report. Rather than updating the student information on a nightly basis, it will now update on an hourly basis. Thanks for all of your support and valuable direction in creating this useful report. Contact Marcy Glassford with any questions, ext 7067 or marcyg@uvu.edu.

FYI – Stoplight Report News and Update

The Stoplight Report is up and available for advisor use through the Advisor Menu.  We are happy to hear that many of you have started using this report and we hope you’ve found it helpful.  We have, however, had the unfortunate news from a few advisors that they have found some problems with the report and I would like to give you a quick update.

First, when using the Student ID selection, occasionally an error page will generate rather than the student’s report.  This problem has been corrected and should update during our nightly banner update, which means starting tomorrow, Dec. 9th, this error should not occur.

Second, there has been some confusion on the Math Requirement trigger.  Many of you have indicated that your student is taking math yet they have the trigger indicating they are missing math.  Please be aware this trigger generates if a student has not taken math 1030/1040/1050, which means if a student is taking math 0950 or math 1010 but has completed 40+ credits they will have a trigger indicating they are missing their math requirement.

Finally, there is a programming issue with the trigger indicating a student has not registered for the next semester.  The programming will be a little more intensive than other issues so may not be corrected until late next week.  I sincerely apologize for this and hope you’ll be patient as we work through the problems.

I truly appreciate all the feedback we’ve received and hope you’ll continue to let me know about problems you run across.

FYI – Update on Stoplight Report

We are currently in the process of moving the Stoplight Report out of testing to your banner advisor menu.  I’m very excited to move through the final stages of promoting this report and completing a multi-year project that will result in a very useful advising tool.  This means the Stoplight report is no longer available for test and you will soon see “Stoplight Report” as a menu item under the banner Advisors Menu.  You should see this link sometime next week.

As you start to use this tool during your advising sessions, please make note of any problems you may run across in your student records and report the issues to me.  Also, feel free to offer suggestions for improvements to help us design this useful tool even further.

Additional training for the Stoplight Report will be offered in January.  Thanks again to the wonderful committee of advisors who helped our office to design this program: Kristen Campbell, Dawn Chase, Erin Donahoe-Rankin, Shalece Nuttall, Carrie Peterson, and J Waterreus.
